Who are the Teamsters

Hats Off to Sue – and Our Hard Working Local 638 Women's Committee

In congratulating our JC 32 President Sue Mauren on the great job she did as Chair of the Teamsters Women's Conference, I also want to recognize our Local 638 Women's Committee, several of whom represented Local 638 at the Conference late this summer. They're doing outstanding work for our Union and our community.

In late September, for example, one of our members and her three kids lost everything in a house fire. Within hours of the news reaching the Local Union office, the Women's Committee was distributing fliers and spreading the word at the Local 638 General Membership meeting and directing our members to a website set up to assist in collecting donations of food, clothing and money.

Over the summer, the Women's Committee worked to identify deployed military men and women who need a word of encouragement and thanks from home... especially those who are Teamsters, our family members and friends. Their service to our country is greatly appreciated, and making their day with an occasional note or package from home is the goal.

During spring, they contributed 88 volunteer hours to a Habitat for Humanity project in St. Paul, and another effort had them helping with the annual Earth Day Mississippi River cleanup. You can follow their activities at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/teamsterwomen

Fraternally,
Mark Rime
